Exercise culture often aims to make women’s bodies smaller, not stronger. And that's not good enough.

For most of human history, humans have moved in functional ways to live our lives, do our tasks, and enjoy our bodies. Training - consistent, functional, challenging movement - was naturally built into daily life.

 

“Exercise”, as we may come to understand it now, is a relatively new concept. Especially when it is approached as a box to check off your to-do list, rather than an exploration of what feels good to you, what challenges you, and what strengthens you.

 

Taking random fitness classes, centering cardio, or HIIT, or yoga, or core strength, focusing (even secretly) on aesthetics or body size… sound familiar? 

 

Or do have a vague sense that you should be doing all this stuff, or at least something more than what you’re doing, but aren’t totally sure what, don’t really know who to trust, or what to prioritize?
